It basically comes down to the fact that many people don't make their profile information public. If you select to gather only Males, it may look at 10,000 accounts but only 800 of them are Males that have public profiles, so only 800 would be gathered. Many people don't offer their profile information publicly and those profiles are skipped if you select a filter on the profile information in a spider search.
